Crime Scene Cleanup & Biohazard Removal
Discreet Help After a Distressing Event
Crime scene cleanup deals with blood, body fluids and items left soiled after an event. GTA Restoration helps families, owners and building managers in Toronto and the GTA. We can help you plan the work once the scene is ready for cleanup.
You do not need to touch or move these items before calling. Instead, keep people and pets out of the room. Tell us what you know from a safe place. We can discuss the next steps without asking you to inspect the scene yourself.
Request Crime Scene Cleanup
Call to discuss the property, access and next steps.
Before Biohazard Cleanup Begins
If someone needs urgent medical help or faces an immediate threat, call 911 first. Police or a coroner may control the scene. In that case, wait until they release it before cleanup starts. Any required removal of remains must also be complete.
For now, leave blood, body fluids, needles and soiled items in place. Do not sweep, vacuum or move them through clean rooms. Doing so can spread waste or cause harm. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety explains how staff can reduce risks when cleaning biological waste.
When you call, tell us the type of home or building. Also let us know if we can enter it. Mention shared halls, stairs or a lift. One contact person can help plan the visit and pass on updates.

How Crime Scene Cleanup Works
Each site needs its own cleanup plan. A small spill on a hard floor may be simple to reach. By contrast, fluids can soak into carpet or spread through floor joints. First, we check the rooms and explain the work. We also point out repairs or other tasks that need a separate plan.
Plan Access for Trauma Scene Cleaning
Our team checks the surfaces, nearby items and routes through the building. Then we plan work zones and ways to keep others out. In a Toronto condo, for example, a manager may need to book the lift. We can also discuss a route that avoids busy shared halls.
Your privacy matters during trauma cleanup. Tell us who should get updates and who can approve changes. However, do not send private records or distressing photos unless we need them. Agree on how to share them first.
Choose What to Clean or Remove
Some hard surfaces can be cleaned and disinfected. However, fluids can soak into carpet, underpad, mattresses and soft furnishings. Those items may need to come out. We explain what can stay and what may need removal. Before work starts, tell us about things you want to keep.
Unattended death cleanup may involve hidden waste as well as odour. For that reason, paint or a new floor covering will not fix the source. We may need to reach below a floor or behind a wall. The findings guide that choice.
Clean Surfaces and Address Odour
Blood cleanup starts with the removal of waste and soiled matter. Next, we use suitable disinfectants on surfaces that can stay in place. The product must suit the surface and the task. It also needs the contact time stated on its label.
Odour work starts at the source. A scent alone cannot replace the removal of waste or soiled items. Our odour removal service can form part of the plan if smells remain.
Plan Waste Handling and Follow-Up Work
Needles and soiled waste need the right containers and disposal route. Ask how the team will sort, pack and remove each type of waste. Infectious waste needs handling under the rules that apply locally. It must not go in ordinary rubbish.
Before we finish, we review the agreed tasks and explain what comes next. For example, new flooring may be needed after old carpet comes out. Some sites may also need more checks or tests. A room that looks clean is not proof that all hazards are gone.
Costs, Timing and Property Support
The cost of crime scene cleanup depends on the rooms, surfaces and waste involved. Access can affect the price too. Ask for a written scope that sets out cleanup and repair costs. If we find more damage, discuss the added work before it starts.
Timing also varies. Call to ask when we can visit. After we check the site, we can give you a clearer plan. We cannot promise a fixed finish time before seeing the work. Likewise, your insurer decides what your policy covers. Records can help explain the claim, but they do not guarantee payment.
We help with homes, rental units, shops and offices across Toronto and the GTA. If sewage is the issue, see our sewage backup cleanup service. Unknown chemicals or signs of a drug lab need a separate risk review. Tell us about those concerns before anyone enters.
Arrange Crime Scene Cleanup
Tell GTA Restoration about the site and how we can reach it. You can start with a brief account of what happened. We will discuss the next steps with you.

Planning Biohazard and Trauma Cleanup
Crime scene cleanup can bring hard choices about rooms, belongings and repairs. GTA Restoration helps owners and building managers work through them. Start with what needs care now. Then agree on a clear plan for the site.
Confirm Access First
Check that police or the coroner have released the scene before anyone enters. Also choose who can approve the work. That person can help with keys and access details.
Keep a Clear Contact Point
Choose one person to receive updates where possible. This helps the family and work team share the same plan. Tell us who else may need to hear from us.
Plan Around Shared Areas
Condos and workplaces may share lifts, halls and entrances. Therefore, discuss routes and building rules before the visit. Keep other people away from the work zone while cleanup takes place.
Discuss Important Belongings
Tell the team which items matter to you. However, leave them in place until we can check them. The type of item and the damage will guide what happens next.
Look Beyond Visible Stains
Fluids may reach floor joints, underpad or hidden spaces. As a result, a stain may not show the full spread. A closer check helps us plan the work it needs.
Explain Sharps Concerns
Tell us about needles or broken glass when you call. Leave them where they are and keep others away. We can then plan how to deal with them at the site.
Review the Crime Scene Cleanup Scope
Ask which rooms, surfaces and items the quote covers. In addition, check the costs of waste removal, odour work and repairs. Clear details help you see what the price includes.
Odour After an Unattended Death
A smell may come from waste or soiled items that remain. Odour work should address that source. Simply adding a scent does not replace the cleanup the room may need.
Ask About Insurance
Your insurer decides what your policy covers. Ask what they need for the claim and keep your records. Meanwhile, let us know which cleanup details they want for the file.
Next Steps After Biohazard Remediation
Some rooms may still need repairs or more checks after cleanup. Before you use the space, ask what work remains. Also confirm which areas are still off limits and why.

Crime Scene Cleanup FAQs
When can cleanup start after an incident?
If police or a coroner control the scene, wait until they release it. Then arrange a site visit. The cleanup plan and timing depend on what we find.
What does biohazard cleanup include?
Work may include taking out soiled items, cleaning, disinfection and odour control. However, each site is different. We explain the scope after we check the rooms.
Should I move belongings before the visit?
Leave soiled items in place and keep people and pets away. Instead, tell the team which items matter to you. We can discuss what may be saved.
How much does crime scene cleanup cost?
Costs depend on the rooms, surfaces, access and waste involved. Ask for a written quote. It should explain the work and list any separate repair charges.
Will insurance pay for trauma cleanup?
Your insurer decides based on the event and your policy. Cleanup records can help explain a claim. However, they do not guarantee that the insurer will pay.
