GTA Restoration specializes in odour removal services, whether it’s pet odor, chemical odour or smoke odor, utilizing an array of odour removal techniques. As fire restoration experts, we regularly deal with smoke odour left behind by a fire. Also, our mold removal and remediation services include the removal of musty odours that usually accompany mold growth. These same techniques can be used to remove pet and urine odour, cigarette/tobacco odours and musty smell and odour in basements or other areas in the house or property.
We use many different methods for removing odor from homes, residential or commercial properties:
Odour Removal Emergency?
Wet fogging is done by using a cold fogger that sprays very small particles of solution onto an affected surface in a controlled manner. The solution then disinfects and deodorizes. This can be applied to all surfaces and furnishings.
Thermal fogging is comparable to wet fogging but the product is dry which lets you have far less residue to the areas affected. In the case of a fire, thermal fogging is usually used in order to recreate the smoke pattern. The smoke pattern is simulated so that the fog will travel the same way the smoke did and will deodorize all the surfaces once used.
When an area is not accessible or it does not make sense to clean or replace it, sealing would be used. Sealing masks odour by using a special sealant which seals the odour away.
When odors are trapped or still lingering after re-decorating, Ozone is used. Ozone removes the odour by breaking down the odour molecules, spores and bacteria that are causing the unpleasant smells. Ozone (03) is a very reactive molecule which reacts with particles in the air and on surfaces. By attaching itself to other molecules, it chemically changes their structure and creates non-offensive molecules, successfully removing the odour.

If you’ve recently experienced a fire, flood, or sewage backup, then odour removal isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. Unpleasant odours are not only offensive to your senses but are often a sign of lingering damage and hidden health hazards. In many cases, these persistent smells are caused by smoke or soot, water-damaged materials, or bacterial growth. Ignoring these odours can mean compromising the structural integrity of your property—and your health.
Fires leave behind harmful particulates in the form of soot and smoke residue, which embed themselves into walls, ceilings, carpets, and HVAC systems. This is where smoke or soot remediation becomes indispensable. It’s not just about freshening the air; it’s about removing toxic compounds that pose respiratory risks and trigger asthma or allergies.
Homeowners often reach for air fresheners or DIY solutions, hoping to mask odours. Unfortunately, these methods are temporary and ineffective. That “clean” smell fades within hours, leaving the same noxious stink behind. Why? Because odour particles embed deep into porous materials like drywall, wood, and insulation.
Our advanced odour removal services use ozone treatments, hydroxyl generators, and thermal fogging to penetrate the deepest fibers and neutralize odours at the molecular level. Combined with targeted smoke or soot remediation, this approach ensures total eradication, not just surface-level cleanup.
Several sources contribute to post-disaster smells, including:
Smoke or soot from fires, especially in drywall and fabrics.
Mould and mildew from water damage.
Sewage backup creating methane and hydrogen sulfide gas.
Dead animal remains in walls or attics.
Pet urine after carpet saturation.
Each situation demands a specific odour neutralizing strategy. For example, smoke odour is tackled through deep soot remediation, while mildew requires enzyme-based deodorizers and antimicrobial agents.
Comprehensive Inspection:
We assess every source of the odour—including hidden smoke, soot, or water damage.
Deep Cleaning & Smoke or Soot Remediation:
We strip away contaminated materials, scrub surfaces, and vacuum with HEPA-grade filtration.
Advanced Odour Neutralization:
Hydroxyl or ozone generators remove every trace of odour, ensuring long-term freshness.
We don’t just clean; we restore air quality to healthy levels, making your property livable again.
The longer you delay professional odour removal, the harder it becomes to eliminate smells. Odour molecules bond with structural materials, making them tougher to extract. In addition, residual soot continues to damage property and corrode metals if not remediated immediately.
That’s why our team is on 24/7 emergency standby—ready to deploy at a moment’s notice for both odour removal and smoke or soot remediation.
Did you know that some odours are a sign of airborne toxins? For example:
Prolonged exposure to soot particles can cause bronchitis, heart issues, and cancer.
Mould odours are a warning sign for black mold, which releases mycotoxins.
Sewage odours can spread dangerous bacteria like E. coli or salmonella.
Don’t let bad smells compromise your family’s well-being. Professional odour removal eliminates the source, not just the symptom.
