Open sink cupboard doors to help warm air reach the pipes. First, move cleaners and other unsafe items out of reach of children and pets. Keep heating vents clear of furniture and stored boxes.

Drain Outdoor Taps Before Frost

Before winter, disconnect garden hoses and drain them. If an indoor valve serves the outdoor tap, follow the system’s instructions to shut it off and drain the line.

Also, arrange proper winter care for irrigation lines and outdoor kitchens. A plumber can explain which parts need draining. Leave shared water systems and fire sprinklers to the people responsible for them.

Know When a Running Tap May Help

For longer absences, ask a plumber about winterizing the building. Tenants and staff should know who to call if a room becomes cold or a tap loses flow.

Act on Low Flow or a Burst Pipe
